Media Consumed In September

Some media I have consumed this month is the Chainsaw Man movie, social media memes on Instagram reels, music by an artist name 2hollis and some rap songs, video games like Plants Vs. Brainrots and Blud Who Speaks in Mustard, a book called Iliad by Homer, and kids shows I am re-watching with my younger siblings.

Miraculous is a superhero show which stars the protagonist Marinette Dupain-Cheng. It follows her high school life and superhero life together and it has romance and has binary opposition included inside of it. My Melody and Kuromi, is a show which focuses on their adventures and characteristics of people. This show has many archetypes and also focuses on binary opposition. Sofia the first is about a girl who was a peasant and her mother marries a king which changes her whole life. This show also has all of these aspects combined and focuses more on camera work with animation and expressions with eyes. Now that I look at the media I consume I can actually analyze it more in depth than before I took this class. All these shows have genres, equilibrium, disruptions, climaxes, resolutions and story lines that keep younger audiences engaged.

This movie has an interesting story line including mythemes, romance, views on how life affects people, and genre of order. The thing about this movie's animation is that it closely resembles cinematography in normal movies and the trailer includes non-diagetic music that the characters cannot hear. There are many close up frames involving the eyes and many fast paced scenes that have actions. When dialogue is used in the trailer it matches with the music in the background. The director of this movie is a free lance animator who has worked with this studio 4 times. His ideas of proxemics and point of view made this movie an entertaining and engaging watch.

Another aspect of media that I have been going through is memes and video games. Memes use a lot of bricolage as the picture above shows SpongeBob with random Russian letters says тотя ( To-oht Ya). Usually these memes do not mean anything and are just engaging to audiences because of humor. But what I see is that some memes get incorporated into online games like the picture above on the right. That game is called Plants vs. Brainrots, it incorporates the game Plants vs. Zombies with the new gen "Italian Brainrots" to make it more engaging to the new gen younger audiences. They also use sound from those memes to make younger audiences more interested in these games. This most likely indicates the use of Brand Recognition.

Overall my analysis skills on entertainment and media have gotten better since I have taken AICE Media Studies, and I can better understand what features make audiences more attracted to games, music, or moves and shows.
