Winter Media Consumption
This is SCP (Secure, Contain, and Protect): Wish I Knew
"SCP Wish I Knew" was the last meme before the new years had ended. This meme or bricolage uses AI to create a singing head of Zachary Aghaizu, a TikTok influencer who is also a musician. This head sings the song Bad Habit by Steve Lacy and is used for mostly no reason and just for a meme. What I have noticed this past winter is that there has been a sudden rise in meme culture. Too much actually, and a lot of them involve numbers or AI. The SCP stands for Secure, Contain, and Protect which is an acronym of a made up fandom of a group who keeps fake Reddit creatures called creepypastas, locked up in cages. They are known as anomalies and have played a huge part in the horror game industry and some short indie horror films on Youtube. Other than that people have been merging AI with fandoms and other memes to create their own form of culture which the new generation picks up on. Most people call this brainrot and meme inflation. While I do see the lack of creativity of these bricolage memes and the way there is too many of them. I cant help but notice that the media influences people which in turn creates new media.
This is a really old 90's mech anime called Neon Genesis Evangelion. This story follows 14 year old Shinji Ikari who ends up being a pilot for biomechanical machines called Evangelions which is used to fight monsters called "angels". But this story ends up taking a very dark turn because it turns out the every human on that earth comes from an alien called Eve and the angels come from the same subtype of alien from the same planet called Adam. It turns out that many habitable planets such as Earth have been given these "seeds" which incur whether the species living on earth would be human or angel. But it turns out that Earth had both Adam and Eve seeds and when they fused together with a vessel, they would have the power of a god. This vessel ended up being our protagonist who suffers from depression due to his mother dying and his father abondoning him. Though the irony, his father is the engineer of these biomechanical suits and a top secret government organization called Seele wants someone to be a vessel so that they could deliver revive the alien race which once thrived on other planets. Though Shinji became that large vessel you see in the scene by merging with his friend who also turned out be a half human and half angel experiment, he ordered the death of everything, every green lightning cross is the death of every organism and every living thing on that planet as it joins into the big red soup. This foreshadows Shinji's loneliness he had felt all throughout his life so he wants everyone to be together. It is a very emotional, psychological thrilling, and horrifying watch; and the director of this anime actually used his own life experiences to shape this anime. Some of his audiences often ask if he was right-minded but I think his story telling and directing of this series was very genius.
One game I have played over the winter season is Spiderman 2. This game follows the story of Miles Morales who ends up just like Peter Parker and they both work together to defeat large forces like Venom, Sandman, and other terrorists groups. This game has a really immersive story line and is a really fun play.
