Pre-Production and Mise-en-scene of Scelestus
We just filmed our first draft of the film opening, and when we were trying to choose a location, we came up with a dorm for the setting in the script. None of us had a house built like the structure of a dorm, so the cast and I agreed to meet up in a library. We chose Barnes and Noble as our destination, but one of our actors felt uncomfortable doing it in a very public place, so we decided to go to Northwest Regional Library and film there. We struggled to find a good place to film but then we found out you could sign up for private rooms. There were 5 of us but the maximum occupancy for a room was 4, so we decided to switch out the room from when it came to our turn of doing the filming. We used our school camera to film and used the rule of third filter on the camera so we could film properly. Prior to filming, I as the director of the film had to find out a way how we could recreate blood with little expense as possible. I went to the nearby store and bought food coloring, but it was a powdered version, so I had to mix it with water so we could apply it on the shirt to mimic blood. I also had to bring a pair of headphones so that our actor for Madeline can wear it to follow the script. We also made our actor use her actual school notes for filming to recreate the atmosphere of a dorm room.
